Vein screenings at Spectrum Health help determine if your symptoms are caused by chronic venous insufficiency. Chronic venous insufficiency happens when the valves in your veins don’t work as well as they should, and they allow blood to pool in your veins.
When you schedule your screening, we’ll help you find the location that’s most convenient for you. Vein screenings are available at Spectrum Health locations across West Michigan, including in Big Rapids, Grand Rapids, Greenville, Hastings, Holland, Muskegon and Zeeland.
Vein screenings are quick, simple and noninvasive.
You’ll meet with a Registered Vascular Technologist®—an imaging professional who specializes in using ultrasound to examine veins and arteries.
The technologist will perform a duplex ultrasound on your legs. This test uses high-frequency sound waves to show how blood flows through your arteries and veins. During the test, you’ll sit or lie on an exam table while the technologist gently moves a handheld instrument across your skin.
Most screening appointments last about 30 minutes.
Your technologist will discuss your results with you at your screening appointment. We’ll share your full results with your primary care provider and add them to your Spectrum Health MyChart account. Talk to your primary care provider about your results and next steps.
