At Spectrum Health, we pledge to take on the challenge to eliminate racism and its impacts on health, hope and lives, both within our organization and in the communities we serve. In 2020, we have reaffirmed this commitment with a Pledge to Act. Racism is a public health crisis.
We are committed to creating an interconnected, collaborative culture where all are encouraged to bring their whole selves to work; it is vital to the health of our organization. As a health system, we advocate for equity as we care for our patients, our communities and each other.
From workshops that develop cultural intelligence, to our inclusion resource groups for people to find community and empowerment at work, we are dedicated to ongoing resources that advance our values of diversity, equity and inclusion in all that we do. We invite those that share in our commitment to join our team.
We want every medical student, resident, fellow and faculty member at Spectrum Health to feel included and respected. We are committed to fostering and advancing inclusion and diversity in our workforce, workplace, leadership, faculty and programs. We believe in equity for everyone.
Some of our resident and fellow focused initiatives and events include:
The 2023 Resident Diversity Showcase is a virtual event on Wednesday, September 13, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event gives 3rd and 4th year medical students, especially those underrepresented in medicine, the opportunity to interact with program directors and residents.
In 2022, Spectrum Health and Beaumont Health integrated to create one system, Corewell Health. Corewell Health in West Michigan and Helen DeVos Children's Hospital have 16 ACGME-accredited residency programs, in partnership with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. We continue to provide the same educational excellence that fosters innovation to always remain at the forefront of medicine. For the 12th year in a row, U.S. News & World Report has recognized Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital as a top pediatric hospital. This year, the HDVCH Cancer and Neurology & Neurosurgery teams were ranked on this prestigious list.
