“There is nothing more important than the health of you and your baby throughout your pregnancy. Your obstetrician may partner with a board-certified maternal fetal medicine specialist who provides an advanced level of care for you and your baby, particularly if you are considered high risk or managing a chronic condition that affects your pregnancy.”
- Vivian Romero, MD, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Spectrum Health Medical Group.
Our board-certified maternal fetal medicine specialists treat you and your growing baby at the same time. With advanced expertise and focus on high-risk or complex pregnancies, we partner with you, your family, and your doctors to plan and navigate the unexpected. Our specialists have worked with moms like you—moms who may have already been through a complicated pregnancy, are managing an existing health condition, or have learned something about their pregnancy that needs ongoing care.
A visit with our team may require one single visit or consultation for guidance throughout your pregnancy. Or, you may also need ongoing care including advanced monitoring, ultrasounds, tests or other treatments depending on your unique pregnancy or risk factors. They may also play a role during or after your baby’s delivery.
We know the diagnosis of a high-risk pregnancy can feel overwhelming. The Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Fetal Care Center is here to guide you through your pregnancy journey with coordinated care between Spectrum Health Medical Group Maternal Fetal Medicine and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
Our experts also collaborate extensively with renowned pediatric subspecialists at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. Should your baby require additional care following delivery, we work closely with our neonatologist team in the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the only level IV NICU in West Michigan and the largest NICU in the state of Michigan.
