Setting up a TytoCare device

Phone requirements

Apple device requirements
  • iPhone 5S, iPad Air, iPad mini 3, iPod touch 6 and newer models
  • iOS 10 operating system or newer version

Mobile users

Complete these steps before your first video visit
  • Step 1: Download the TytoCare app. (Note: You do not need to create an account.)
  • Step 2: Download the Spectrum Health app. Tap the "Login to MyChart" banner in the middle of the landing page. Create an account or login.
  • Step 3: Navigate to the menu and search for and select "TytoCare Pairing", which will launch the TytoCare app. Follow the in-app instructions to complete Device setup and pairing.
  • Step 4: Turn on notifications and volume for your Spectrum Health app. Notifications need to be turned on for both the Spectrum Health and Tyto apps. You will hear chimes and receive a notification when your provider is ready.

PC users

Complete these steps before your first video visit
  • Step 1: Using your Google Chrome or Chromium Edge browser, go to: https://mychart.spectrumhealth.org/ 
    Tip: download Google Chrome.
  • Step 2: Create an account or sign in.
  • Step 3: Navigate to the menu and search for and select "TytoCare Pairing", which will launch a new web browser. Follow the instructions to complete Device setup and pairing.

Learn about your device

  • Watch the TytoCare setup video tutorial within the TytoCare app. Turn on your TytoCare device to pair it with your TytoCare app and Wi-Fi network or mobile hotspot.
  • Your TytoCare app will display a quick response (QR) code. Use your TytoCare device to scan the code, allowing the device and app to share data. 

The device will prompt an update to the latest version, which will take three to five minutes.

  • We recommend completing the Tyto Academy before your first video visit, so you can practice with your device and learn best practices.

Scheduled TytoCare visits

Please self-schedule, call your doctor’s office or send your provider a message in MyChart to request a scheduled Tyto video visit. Once your visit is scheduled, you will be able to access it from the appointments section of your MyChart account.

  • Step 1: Fifteen minutes prior to your visit, Log in to your MyChart account on the Spectrum Health app through your mobile device or tablet. If on a PC, simply Sign In. Next, click on “Login to MyChart”.
  • Step 2: Find and click the appointments icon.
  • Step 3: Locate your future Tyto video visit with your provider.
  • Step 4: Complete the entire eCheck-in process. This step can be completed within 48 hours prior to the appointment. Follow prompts and update fields as needed.
  • Step 5: If the entire eCheck-in is complete, the "Begin Visit" button will activate and turn green at the time of your appointment. (Note: Your eCheck-in must be complete before you can start your visit.)
  • Step 6: Click “Begin Visit.”
  • Step 7: If prompted to do so; allow permission for camera and microphone access.
    Please note: This can also be done in your app permission settings
  • Step 8: “Waiting for provider” will display until the provider joins the video visit.
  • Step 9: Click “Join”

On-demand TytoCare visits

Using your MyChart account via PC or Spectrum Health app, click “On-Demand Video Visit.” Follow prompts until you are provided the “Put me in line” option. After making that selection, complete the eCheck-in process. You will then be placed in a virtual waiting room. From there, a provider will see you shortly.

  • Step 1: To access an on-demand visit, sign into your Spectrum Health app on your mobile device or tablet, or sign into Spectrum Health MyChart at: https://mychart.spectrumhealth.org/
  • Step 2: Click On-Demand Video Visit.
  • Step 3: Follow the on-screen directions and fill out all applicable information.
  • Step 4: Complete the entire eCheck-in. Follow prompts and update fields as needed. Please note: Your eCheck-in must be complete before you can start your visit.
  • Step 5: If the entire eCheck-in is complete; the “Begin Visit” button will activate and turn green.
  • Step 6: Click “Begin Visit.”
  • Step 7: If prompted to do so; allow permission for camera and microphone access. Please note: This can also be done in your app permission settings.
  • Step 8: “Waiting for provider” will display until the provider joins the video visit.
  • Step 9: Click “Join”

Do I need any training to use TytoCare?

Tyto has built-in training videos and guidance technology to help ensure accuracy and ease-of-use. When using Tyto during a live telehealth exam, your clinician will guide you through the examination process, letting you know where to put the stethoscope on your heart, where to place the otoscope inside the ear, etc.

For tips and training on using your TytoCare device, we recommend completing the Tyto Academy prior to your first video visit.

What exams can be performed using TytoCare?

A Tyto visit provides your physician with high-quality digital sounds of the heart and lungs, high-quality digital images and video of the ears, throat, and skin and measures heart rate and body temperature. Using this examination data, your doctor can provide you with a diagnosis, treatment plan, and prescription if needed.

Can I use TytoCare away from home?

Yes. Tyto is lightweight, compact, and portable. It is designed for all types of remote use. All you need is the Spectrum Health app, a smartphone or tablet, and a Wi-Fi connection.

Who sees the data from my exams and is it HIPAA compliant?

Exam data is sent via an encrypted, secure network and is stored on our HIPAA-compliant cloud. Only you and your healthcare provider can determine who can access your medical records.

Is TytoCare FDA cleared?

Tyto Stethoscope is FDA cleared and all other devices comply with FDA requirements.

Is TytoCare similar to the exam tools used by providers in an office?

Yes, TytoCare includes an otoscope (ears), stethoscope (heart, lungs, and abdomen), basal thermometer, and digital camera (skin and throat) and is designed to provide your healthcare provider with the same type of examination data he or she would use in the office. The Tyto Stethoscope was cleared by the FDA and all other devices comply with FDA requirements. Tyto devices have passed multiple performance bench tests versus comparable devices to ensure quality results.

What conditions can be diagnosed with TytoCare?

TytoCare can help a healthcare provider diagnose and treat many common conditions, including ear infections, sore throats, fever, cold and flu, allergies, pink eye, nausea, constipation, asthma, bronchitis, upper respiratory infections, bug bites, and common skin conditions, including contact dermatitis, rash, and diaper rash.

Can I receive a prescription after a TytoCare visit?

Yes. If a prescription is needed, your provider can prescribe and send your prescription directly to your preferred pharmacy.

What is my role in a TytoCare exam?

You will perform the exams at home on yourself or your child using TytoCare using Tyto’s proprietary guidance technology or under the guidance of a healthcare provider. In both scenarios, you will be guided through the process to ensure accurate exam data is captured.

Is TytoCare okay to use on sensitive skin?

Yes. TytoCare conducted biocompatibility testing and was found to be in full compliance with the biocompatibility standards requirements.
