Spectrum Health offers the latest PET-CT scanning technology, enabling us to produce high quality images and enhanced information for diagnosis and treatment.
The combination of PET and CT imaging technologies helps us better evaluate cardiovascular disease and neurological conditions. This type of scan also helps detect cancer within your body and determine whether your current treatment is working.
A few tips to help you prepare for your PET-CT scan:
- To improve image quality, it's best to eat a low-carbohydrate diet prior to the test.
- If your scan is for cancer, fast for six hours beforehand. If your scan is for sarcoidosis, infection or inflammation, fast for 18 hours beforehand. You must also eat a low carbohydrate, high fat diet for 48 hours before your scan.
During your PET-CT scan:
- You'll lie down for 20 to 30 minutes.
- We'll communicate with you through an intercom system.
Throughout your scan, we'll make you as comfortable as possible and monitor your progress on cameras. We'll send the results of your scan to your doctor within three to five business days. You may also view your results on MyHealth.
