What are your clinical interests? I am interested in acute care pediatrics. Additionally, in healthcare utilization, how do we get the right resources to the right people in the right time?
Hobbies: I love hanging out with my wife and kids and we can often be found hiking, fishing, biking or camping. I also enjoy board games, soccer, hockey and golf in addition to pen making.

I wanted a medium-sized pediatric program that had a large catchment area with many opportunities to explore all specialties/primary care. Area was an important factor, as well; I wanted seasons and Michigan definitely doesn't disappoint. Not to mention, the interview went flawlessly and I felt comfortable and excited for matching into a program with such kind and funny humans.
What are your clinical interests? I am interested in primary care pediatrics, adolescent medicine, lifestyle medicine, global health and foster care health.
Hobbies: I love anything outdoors. Paddle boarding, rollerblading, biking, rock climbing, long walks with my dog Garbanzo, swimming and really just trying anything new. Jigsaw puzzles, cooking/baking and reading are also tough to beat.

I loved that everyone was on a first name basis. I also wanted to go to a large children's hospital where I could get lots of experience. I'm from Michigan and wanted to stay close to family. I also liked that everything is in one place/near each other - clinic, hospital, specialty clinics. No 24-hour shifts! Free parking! Overall good vibes!
What are your clinical interests? As of right now I've got lots of interests and I love most things outpatient - both primary care and specialties that are outpatient focused.
Hobbies: I like spending time with family and friends, watching TV shows and movies, listening to music, playing card games and board games and talking about all things pop culture (especially the 2000s).

During my interview day, even through the virtual interview process, I felt a welcoming, family-like culture among the residents and faculty. I also feel the program gives me the opportunity to train at a state-of-the-art Children's Hospital with a wide array of subspecialists.
What are your clinical interests? I am still exploring my options within pediatrics, but I currently have an interest in pediatric gastroenterology. My other interests within medicine include public health (advocacy, nutrition, and preventative care), medical education and global health.
Hobbies: In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, exploring new restaurants and being a foodie, traveling, hiking, golfing, classical Indian dance and reading.

In the new age of virtual interviews, we were presented with the challenge to gauge whether a program was a good fit without seeing the location or meeting the people. I chose Spectrum Health for my pediatric residency because the family-feel environment was tangible through a virtual interview. From the collegial relationships between faculty and residents and the obvious commitment to a positive learning environment, I knew I wanted to join Spectrum Health where I would be supported by a family away from home throughout residency.
What are your clinical interests? My clinical interests lie in general pediatrics and complex care. My academic interests include improving quality of care for children with medical complexity and decreasing caretaker burnout.
Hobbies: I have several hobbies, including food blogging (follow @taaste_buds), refurbishing furniture/antiquing (which helped ensure I could alway afford tea and coffee throughout college), but my greatest passion is cycling! What are your clinical interests? While I'm still undecided about my future career goals, I have so many clinical interests at the moment! I am looking forward to exploring more into neonatology, adolescent medicine and allergy/immunology.
Hobbies: My husband and I love to paddle board, ride our bikes and take our dog for walks/hikes during the summers. During the winters, I'm a big fan of drinking coffee and reading a good book under a blanket with our cat while my husband goes skiing. I was looking for a children's hospital that was attached to the adult hospital so that labor and delivery was onsite and Helen Devos Children's Hospital gave me just that! I could not feel more blessed to be a part of the pediatric residency at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
What do you like most about your program? As a new resident pediatrician, I am looking forward to meeting all my co-residents and establishing new lifelong relationship and bonds! I am excited to solidify my role as a future pediatrician, fine tune my clinical practice and knowledge, and find my niche within the realm of pediatrics.
Clinical Interests: Working with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fundraising efforts as an undergraduate at Michigan State University to rotating at St. Jude in the inpatient solid tumor and leukemia services, my heart resides in pediatric hematology/oncology. What do you like most about your program? I like that it is a medium sized program with a great exposure and all the sub-specialties a phone-call away.
Clinical Interests: After finishing my residency, I am interested in pursuing a NICU fellowship.
Living in West Michigan: I like living in West Michigan because it close to family. it is also has a diverse population and lots of activities to do.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health? I chose Spectrum Health/Michigan State University because of the people I interacted with during my interview, so it was heartbreaking to hear that residency interviews are all virtual this year. I felt that program leadership really cared about resident wellness and that our voice would be heard in residency. It also helped that the hospital is so new and gorgeous all around! I know it sounds like something small, but when you're tired and feeling overworked, it really makes a difference coming into an environment that's welcoming. Additionally, I thought I would receive a well-rounded pediatrics education since we have access to all Pediatric sub-specialties, providing us the opportunity to explore our career interest while providing the learning we need to be competent physicians. The program also allows us to participate in global health rotations, which was something I was looking for during my residency interviews.
What do you like most about your program? Overall, intern year has confirmed that this was the right choice because it all came true! They do work really hard to get our feedback to improve work flow, scheduling, and wellness. The attending are passionate about teaching and provide couching (aka feedback) in a non-judgmental/penalizing way. And there's lots of great food options with the meal stipend the hospital provides, so we feel well cared for, for sure. Let's be clear though. It's not a perfect program. There's a lot of areas to grow and improve upon, but we have staff and leadership who work with enthusiasm and empower us to become the physicians we hope to become.
Clinical Interests: Most likely outpatient pediatrics,, but I do enjoy procedures. I would like to have some component of Global Health in my career as well.
Living in West Michigan: The ease of access to various outdoor activities at all times of year. There are hiking trails nearby all around the city, Lake Michigan is less than 1 hour away, and there's skiing and ice-skating in the winter too! Plus Grand Rapids has a nice variety of restaurants to choose from, including Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Spanish, Breweries, and more! There are a lot of young professionals in the city and you're pretty safe living downtown too.
Hobbies: I enjoy eating great food, running, ultimate Frisbee, swimming, hiking, and playing the drums. I've tried abstract painting in residency, but it hasn't gone well.

Clinical Interests: I am still quite undecided. I have an interest in hematology/oncology, or maybe cardiology. Primary care seems pretty fun, and hospitalist medicine seems interesting too.
