Why did you choose Spectrum Health for your residency/fellowship? I chose Spectrum Health for it's training in both rural and urban settings, as well as the welcoming providers and residents.

What are your clinical interests? Besides full scope family medicine, I'm also interested in hospice and palliative care.

Hobbies: I love travelling, concerts and food. As well as spending time with my husband and our cats.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health for your residency/fellowship? I chose Spectrum Health for my residency training because it gave me the opportunity to learn in both urban and rural settings. I also grew up in West Michigan and was excited to return to the area.

What are your clinical interests? Beyond full-scope family medicine, my clinical interests include rural medicine and women's health.

Hobbies: I enjoy all the outdoor activities that Michigan has to offer including hiking, kayaking, camping and exploring Michigan's upper peninsula.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health for your residency/fellowship? As a native of Grand Rapids, it is an honor to train and serve the community where I was born and raised.

What are your clinical interests? My clinical interests are in preventative medicine and establishing a connection with patients to help guide them in taking charge of their own physical and mental health.

Hobbies: I love creating and playing music and adventuring outdoors.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health for your residency/fellowship? The family medicine program at Spectrum Health felt like the best fit for me both personally and professionally. My interactions with the faculty and staff were warm and genuine, and the location and quality of facilities was outstanding.

What are your clinical interests? My clinical interests are difficult to narrow into a single category. I love aspects of every single specialty and wish I could do them all, which is part of the reason I pursued family medicine in the first place. I particularly enjoy working with young patients.

Hobbies: I enjoy the myriad of outdoor activities and sports, with recent efforts to improve my golf game. I love going to metal concerts and rock music festivals. And I have a seasonal affinity for cultural strongman competitions like the Highland/Celtic Games which I participate in with my younger brother.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health for your residency/fellowship? I chose Spectrum Health as my first choice of residency for many reasons. I liked how there is ample exposure to both urban and rural medicine and a supportive faculty focused on resident learning. I was also impressed by their innovative ideas that are incorporated throughout training.

What are your clinical interests? My clinical interests include sports medicine, lifestyle and preventative medicine, as well as women's health.

Hobbies: My main hobbies include athletics and sports, music and baking.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health for your residency/fellowship? Growing up in Northern Michigan, Spectrum Health was a staple in my community, known for providing exceptional medical care. It was also important to me that I found a training program close to my family. I also chose this residency due to having diversity in training with both urban and rural medicine opportunities.

What are your clinical interests? Clinically, I am interested in outpatient primary care, women's health, obstetrics and international medicine.

Hobbies: My hobbies include traveling, slow-pitch softball and spending time with my friends, family and my dog, Oakley.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health for your residency/fellowship? I chose Spectrum Health for its training in both rural and urban environments, the lifestyle medicine curriculum and proximity to family.

What are your clinical interests? My clinical interests include women's health and preventative medicine.

Hobbies: I love experiencing new things such as exploring new places through travel and trying new restaurants as as well as learning to watercolor and playing piano. I especially love spending time with my young family and taking them on adventures.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health? Attending medical school in Grand Rapids, I was able to experience firsthand the excellent training that takes place at Spectrum Health. The family medicine team was always so welcoming and I learned so much from all of my interactions with patients on my various rotations throughout the health system. Ultimately, it just seemed like a great fit to continue my training for residency.

What do you like most about your program? I am most looking forward to learning from and working with my future patients. I am also really excited to form strong, supportive relationships with my co-residents, faculty, and program staff.

Clinical Interests: While I enjoy all aspects of family medicine, I am particularly interested in office-based procedural care, geriatrics, hospice and palliative care.

Living in West Michigan: There is a lot to enjoy about living in West Michigan. Having a vibrant and diverse city such as Grand Rapids within a relatively short drive to Lake Michigan is wonderful. As I grew up in mid-Michigan, I also love that I am still in close proximity to friends and family in the state.

Hobbies: My wife and I spend most of our time hanging out with our golden retriever, Neko. We also enjoy kayaking and varied additional outdoor activities, trips up north, and spending time with friends and family. If I have spare time, I also love golf and following Spartan sports.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health? I chose Spectrum Health for the diversity of its training environment with training in both the urban and rural setting. I immediately felt that I connected with the faculty and believe in their vision for a training program. Finally, I desperately wanted to live in West Michigan again!

What do you like most about your program? I am most looking forward to working in a rural hospital. I spent a month at an externship in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and really enjoyed working with that patient population and am hoping Greenville is somewhat similar.

Clinical Interests: My clinical interests are preventive medicine, patient education and geriatric medicine.

Living in West Michigan: The thing I enjoy most about living in West Michigan are all the outdoor activities. I think the people are great and the area is beautiful.

Hobbies: My hobbies include playing music (mostly Celtic), hiking, backpacking, wilderness survival, winter camping, reading and spending time with family.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health? Spectrum Health was my first choice in residency because I am from West Michigan and saw a need to have more LGBTQIA+ representation in the primary care field. My goal is to address health disparities we have in these sometimes forgotten communities. Spectrum Health gives me the opportunity to give back to the community where I grew up and be a voice for those who are so often unheard.

What do you like most about your program? Spectrum Health Family Medicine program is a caring and compassionate group of humans. As a medical student they were nothing but welcoming and taught me the importance of skilled primary care physicians. This program in particular made me feel heard as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. The population base in Grand Rapids is diverse and the program strives to make medical care more accessible for underserved communities.

Clinical Interests: My passion is LGBTQIA+ health care and trying to eliminate the health disparities we see in this community.

Living in West Michigan: I enjoy the beauty of West Michigan. I am an outdoors person and there are many biking, hiking, running trails throughout the area. West Michigan offers numerous community events that celebrates many different cultural and diverse backgrounds.

Hobbies: I love to run, bike, and lift in my free time. Making meals with my fiancé is something we enjoy to do together, slowly teaching ourselves new techniques in the kitchen. I would also say getting tattoos is a hobby of mine, I love the artwork and skill that goes in American Traditional style. I also own a vintage motorcycle and love to ride when the weather here is nice.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health? I was drawn to Spectrum Health for my residency for a number of reasons. West Michigan was high on my list of places where I would like to train because it is such a wonderful area. I did many of my clinical rotations during medical school at Spectrum Heath and really enjoyed the experiences I had here.

What do you like most about your program? I am looking forward to seeing a diverse patient population and to the opportunity to train in both rural and urban settings.

Clinical Interests: I am interested in outpatient primary care, urgent care, and addiction medicine.

Living in West Michigan: West Michigan is a wonderful place to live. I grew up here and hope to practice here during my career. We have numerous natural areas that are fun to explore. We are a short 30 minute drive from Lake Michigan and the beach. I enjoy the ever expanding network of bicycle paths we have in the area. There are lots of inland lakes and rivers to explore by kayak or canoe.

Hobbies: I enjoy many outdoor activities including hiking, backpacking trips, camping, visiting National Parks, kayaking, and bicycling. I am apiarist with several honeybee hives.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health? I chose Spectrum Health to be closer to family, because of my love for West Michigan and the scope of training that was offered during residency.

What do you like most about your program? I look forward to getting to know all of my co-residents and starting a career in West Michigan.

Clinical Interests: My clinical interests are in-office procedures, preventative care and public health.

Living in West Michigan: I enjoy being close to family and friends, going out to restaurants and breweries and being a short drive from Lake Michigan.

Hobbies: In my free time, I enjoy grilling and smoking, playing sports, playing video games, reading and spending time with my wife and two mini dachshunds.

Why did you choose Spectrum Health? I was blessed to spend my residency at Spectrum Health and be able to provide quality care for a health care system that has provided so much for my family. Being from the Westside of Grand Rapids, it means the world to me to be able to represent Spectrum Health and to provide care to the community that I belong to.

What do you like most about your program? I am looking forward to gaining experience, knowledge, and continuity during my three years of residency as a Family Medicine resident. This program is unique because it has aspects of rural and urban training and emphasizes outpatient patient care.

Clinical Interests: I am interested in sports medicine, outpatient medicine and in serving rural and underserved communities.

Living in West Michigan: I have lived in West Michigan all of my life. I enjoy the sense of support and community of the area, the accessibility to the Great Lakes, the brewery and restaurant scene, and that this city is a great place to put your roots down and raise a family.

Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing and watching sports, collecting records, and playing with my pets! I have two dogs and a cat! GO GREEN!
