Justin Steele, MD
Justin Steele, MD

Hometown: White Hall, IL

Medical school: University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria

Why did you choose Spectrum Health for your residency/fellowship? I loved how welcoming the Program Director and Associate Program Director were, even before I received an interview! I completed a Med-Peds residency, so there are still a lot of questions of how we fit into PHM fellowships, but leadership here has been so supportive and proactive in ensuring I get Internal Medicine exposure. Furthermore, the fellowship is extremely customizable depending on your clinical interest. Not to mention, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital is an amazing tertiary medical center with so many resources for patients from all over Michigan.

What are your clinical interests? I'm interested in medical education, simulation and virtual reality, as well as Global Health.

Hobbies: I love playing Ultimate Frisbee, hiking, weight lifting, reading and playing video games! Grand Rapids luckily has plenty of beautiful hiking opportunities nearby and within a couple of hours!

Medical school: University of Minnesota Medical School

Why did you choose Spectrum Health for your residency/fellowship? I feel incredibly lucky to be doing my pediatric hospitalist fellowship at Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital! The program is committed to my growth not only as a professional, but also as a person. I was drawn by the emphasis on medical education and quality improvement as well as a supportive culture that cares about safety, diversity and community. I look forward to continuing to learn from the experience and dedication of our program directors and attending physicians.

What are your clinical interests? My primary interest coming out of medical school and continuing in residency was medical education. That won't change in fellowship. I plan to do research in medical education as I continue to hone my teaching skills and help others build their patient ca

Hobbies: I'm an avid runner, proud uncle, middling guitar player and a former journalist who spends too much time reading newspaper websites.
