Visiting a Patient?
Family and Visitor Restrictions
Our family and visitor restrictions are to help keep patients, family members and team members safe during the COVID-19 situation, to comply with State of Michigan orders and to preserve personal protective equipment, or PPE, for health care workers who are at risk.
Visitors (including family members) will be restricted at all locations including hospitals, outpatient locations and long-term care facilities, except in special circumstances.
Special circumstances allow one approved visitor for:
- Patients undergoing surgery
- Maternity patients in the hospital
- Pediatric patients at outpatient locations and in the hospital; including the pediatric ICU and neonatal ICU at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital
- Visitors for end of life situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Visitors for special circumstances will be screened for symptoms at point of entry.
Patients can use CareCircle, a free online resource that allows patients to provide updates on their health and share private information with a select audience rather than on traditional social media.
We offer virtual visitor options to those who have family members in our adult ICUs as a way to connect with their loved ones. The care team in the ICU can provide more information about how families can connect virtually.
This is a rapidly evolving situation and information is subject to change. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and understand this is an extremely difficult time for everyone.
