Who we are

We are a group of surgeons who have set up a network to promote minimally invasive ventricular assist device implantation (other than full sternotomy surgical approaches).

Spectrum Health hosts the MiniHeart® Network’s registry and is the core lab for analysis, research and the development of education for distribution among its members.

Our goal

Our goal is to achieve optimal outcomes for advanced heart failure patients requiring ventricular assist device implantation. We aim to evaluate any minimally-invasive placed, ventricular assist device.

How we will achieve our goal

We aim to become a hub for the development of implantation techniques for ventricular assist device, bringing the world’s leading experts together to drive research , quality and educate patients, caregivers and providers.

We will:

  1. Establish a real-world registry for minimally invasive ventricular assist device to allow understanding of short- and long-term benefits/risks.
  2. Conduct research projects and quality improvement projects.
  3. Define indications, techniques and pitfalls for minimally invasive surgical technique.
  4. Share best practices among centers performing minimally invasive techniques.
