Joan Budden, MPA

Joan Budden is president and CEO of Priority Health. Priority Health is a nationally recognized health benefits company that focuses on improving the health and lives of its members across the state of Michigan. In her leadership roles, Joan is responsible for strategic planning, public policy, business process development, and market and product development. Priority Health is part of the Spectrum Health System, a $6.9 billion not-for-profit integrated health system based in West Michigan.

Joan has more than 30 years of experience in the health insurance industry. She has held a number of leadership and executive management positions with health insurers, including leading the individual consumer division, project management office and corporate strategy department for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public administration from Wayne State University in Detroit.

Joan currently serves on the boards of directors of the Detroit Economic Club, the Grand Rapids Economic Club, Van Andel Institute, Grand Rapids Chamber, Universal Forest Products, and Independent Bank Corporation. She is also a former board member of The Children’s Center in Detroit, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park and the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids. Budden also serves on the board of directors for the Alliance of Community Health Plans, a national leadership organization focused on advocating for better health care nationwide.
