Who We Are

This council was established in June 2011. These individuals are excited about the opportunity to provide leaders with guidance from the rural patient and family’s perspective, including areas such as Grant, Newaygo, White Cloud and Hesperia. The Spectrum Health Leadership and Council members focus on ways to include the patient perspective through the multiple services provided within the community hospital and the connection to a larger health system.

PFAC Gerber Group

Council Accomplishments:
  • Partnered with the emergency department to understand what it is like for a  patient (and their family) who is being transferred to another Spectrum Health facility, paying specific attention to providing reassurance and confidence to the patient and family members
  • Provided feedback on the emergency department expansion including the lobby area and the addition to the outpatient surgery space; reinforced that the environment is integral to the process and that respect for patient’s families begins well before they come in the front door
  • During the renovation process the council provided ideas and timely suggestions on communication with the community, how patients will access physicians for appointments and made sure patients were well informed during the construction phase
  • When Gerber Memorial joined Spectrum Health, a challenge was how to bring the electronic medical record into the fold to ensure a seamless experience; members helped employees position the resource as a way to improve excellence through real-time, secure access to medical information
