Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies are procedures to study the muscles and nerves of the body. It is most often used in the diagnosis of disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, cervical and lumbosacral radiculopathy, as well as muscle disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and myasthenia gravis. It is performed by both a technologist and a physician with specialized training.
The Spectrum Health Neurosciences EMG laboratory is committed to providing excellent electrodiagnostic studies while making the experience as painless as possible. Our lab is accredited by the AANEM with exemplary status. Exemplary status is the highest level of accreditation recognized by the AANEM. It is granted to laboratories where the Lab Medical Director is certified by at least one of the following boards: American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM); American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology (ABPN) in clinical neurophysiology or neuromuscular medicine or American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) in neuromuscular medicine.
