Stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) delivers precisely-focused, high dose x-ray beams to a very small, targeted area. It is used to treat small lesions in the brain and head (both malignant and benign), as well as other areas such as the lung, liver, prostate, spine and pancreas.

The Novalis Tx linear accelerator, located at the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion, is the first unit of this type in West Michigan, dedicated for stereotactic treatment delivery. It utilizes a high dose rate for shorter treatment times, a high resolution collimation system to accurately shape the treatment field, and a sophisticated x-ray image guidance system to precisely visualize and identify the target area before and during treatment delivery.
