If you have received a notification from the Spectrum Health Secure Messaging system similar to this:
Then someone at Spectrum Health has sent you a message that has been marked “secure” or “confidential” by the sender because it contains confidential or patient health information. You will need to log in to the Spectrum Health Secure Messaging system to view your message. Because the security settings of your email service cannot be verified, the message is stored in a secure messaging portal to protect its contents. The following guide will help you create a new profile and retrieve your messages.
Follow these instructions to retrieve your message. Please note that this user name and password combination is not shared with any other Spectrum Health systems.
1. Click the Click here link in the notification e-mail you received.
2. You should be presented with a web page that resembles this:
3. In the image above where it states firstname.lastname@example.org, your Email Address will already be filled in for you.
4. Type in your First and Last names in the appropriate fields. Enter a password. Re-enter the same password into the Confirm password field.

7. Click Continue to complete your profile and proceed to your secure message.
When you receive future Secure Messaging notifications and click the Click here link, you will only need to login with the password you set previously.
Secure Messaging enables Spectrum Health staff to deliver confidential information to partners and patients while protecting patient privacy and adhering to regulations such as HIPAA and HITECH.
If your email system is setup to securely receive messages, you will receive the message in your inbox flagged as confidential. If the original message cannot be sent securely to your email system, you will be sent a notification with a link to view the message from the Spectrum Health Secure Messaging system. You must create an account with a password to sign into the Secure Messaging server to view the message.
Yes, any message sent as a reply to a Spectrum Health secure message will be secured.
All secure messages stored on the Spectrum Health Secure Messaging system are automatically deleted 21 days from the send date, regardless of the read state. No reminder notifications will be sent to alert senders or recipients of unread messages.
Contact your email system administrator and ask them to enable Transport Layer Security (TLS) on your email system. TLS is a network protocol designed to prevent eavesdropping and tampering across networks such as the internet. If TLS is enabled on your email system, secure messages will be automatically routed to your inbox. Your email system administrator can contact the Spectrum Health IS Service Desk with questions.
