Spectrum Health employees live and breathe our mission in caring for you and our community—we thrive to—improve health, inspire hope and save lives. In addition to this passion and hard work, employees give back personally by way of philanthropy as well.
In 2019, over $620,000 was donated to more than 207 different programs and services at Spectrum Health through their generosity. Additionally, 2,336 Paid Time Off hours were donated to our Close Enough to Care Fund—a program that assists our employees experiencing financial hardship due to an unexpected or uncontrollable life event.
Maria Chase has been working at Spectrum Health as a recreation therapy coordinator for almost 18 years. Seven years ago, she had her third open heart surgery performed by Dr. Marcus Haw at the Congenital Heart Center. The surgery changed her life in numerous ways, but most importantly she was able to start a family. After Maria learned the Congenital Heart Center was funded by philanthropy she wanted to help. Maria started donating and engaging colleagues by raising awareness of what the Spectrum Health Foundation does and the role it plays in the lives of patients and families. Read her story here.
