Preventive services

As women, one of the best ways we can stay in good health is to make preventive care a priority. Unfortunately, many of us delay annual exams due to lack of time. Preventive services like the ones outlined below not only detect health issues before they become problems, they can help enhance our overall health and quality of life. The amount and type of preventive care we need varies based on personal factors like our age, family health history, lifestyle and more. Our team of women’s health experts will help you determine the right preventive care schedule for you based on your individual preferences, values and goals. And our care navigator makes it easy for you to save time and get the care you need by coordinating multiple appointments into the same visit.

Bone density testing

Bones are the framework of our bodies. They’re also living tissue that changes constantly. In women, bone strength and density peaks around age 25-30, and the rate at which we then lose bone density depends on factors like age, exercise, genetics, hormones and nutrition.

Periodic bone density testing helps you know how your bones are doing. Painless, noninvasive and safe, a DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scan measures bone mineral content and density. Based on your individualized results, our team will pinpoint your personal level of risk for bone-related problems like fractures and osteoporosis, and provide individualized ways to minimize your risk and build bone health. To assess your risk of fracture, take a fracture risk quiz.

Preventive cardiology

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the U.S., however more women die from heart disease than men. Many types of heart disease can be prevented by reducing and controlling risk factors. Preventive cardiology focuses on recognizing individuals at higher risk for a cardiac event and working to prevent onset or stop progression of heart disease.

Because certain risk factors put women at unique risk, identifying and treating conditions and risks early on, you can increase your chances of avoiding heart disease. Our evaluation and treatment therapies are designed to slow or stop the progression of heart disease by correctly identifying risks and symptoms. We provide counseling, education and tools that promote a healthy lifestyle and empower you to take control of your health. Preventive cardiology may be beneficial if you are at a high risk of developing heart disease or suffer from chronic conditions such as diabetes, elevated LDL (bad cholesterol) or high blood pressure.

Common reasons to be seen in preventive cardiology:

  • Heart disease
  • Multiple risk factors for heart disease
  • Risk assessment for hormone replacement therapy
  • Difficulty controlling high blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Depression and/or anxiety
  • Stress management
  • Nutrition therapy
  • Metabolic wellness
  • Intolerance to blood pressure or cholesterol medications
Women’s preventive exams and screenings

Preventive exams and screenings lay the groundwork for a lifetime of good health. Current guidelines recommend women receive the following preventive screenings:

  • Mammogram every year starting at age 40.
  • Pap smear every three years until the age of 65, or pap and HPV test every five years until the age of 65.

These key preventive measures help decrease chances of experiencing a serious health condition, and provide women with a regular opportunity to ask questions, discuss health concerns and set intentions with a health provider.

We offer the option for one hour mammogram results.
