Office of Research Administration
“Research represents HOPE, and for so many patients and families HOPE is the best we have to offer. We pursue our investigations so that one day we can offer HEALTH.” Dr. Judah Folkman
Spectrum Health continues to be a champion of clinical research since first launching clinical trials in the late 1970s. Many of those early studies are now routinely used, such as the surfactant studies for premature infants whose lungs are not fully developed; platinum-based chemotherapy and lasers for treatment of coronary artery disease.
Our growth since the 1970s has been dramatic. Today, we are West Michigan's largest health system-based research program. Spectrum Health is connected to more than 90 percent of the Grand Rapids area clinical research studies. Our team includes nearly 50 research operations professionals who facilitate hundreds of research studies in clinical specialties within cardiovascular, oncology, pediatrics, neurology/neurosurgery, women's health, emergency medicine and many others.
