Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and brittle, so much so that, in severe cases, even coughing can cause a fracture. As we age, we lose more bone mass than is created, which causes osteoporosis. You’re at an increased risk based on your age, medical history and lifestyle choices.

Spectrum Health has a team of experts specializing in osteoporosis and bone health. We will provide you the necessary tools to strengthen your bones and minimize the risk of fractures.

Treatments for Osteoporosis

Your care team determines your treatment plan based on your age, overall health and medical history. We’re also going to take into consideration your preference and how well you handle certain medications or procedures. Our goal is to help you manage your osteoporosis by decreasing pain, preventing fractures and minimizing further bone loss.

Your treatment plan may include inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. Your care team may involve an orthopedic surgeon, occupational and physical therapist and even a nutrition specialist to help improve your bone health and lifestyle choices.
