Spectrum Health offers one of West Michigan’s leading programs for diagnosing and treating colon and rectal cancer. Our digestive disease team provides comprehensive and compassionate care to you, and has performed more colonoscopies than any others in the region.

Colonoscopy is a procedure used to see inside the colon and rectum. It is used as both a screening test for colorectal polyps, lesions and tumors, but also as part of a treatment plan. The colonoscope, a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a lens for viewing, also has a tool to remove polyps or tissue samples.

Virtual colonoscopy is an imaging test performed using radiography. Virtual colonoscopy is different than a regular colonoscopy, and is now included in the American Cancer Society’s recommended colorectal cancer screening guidelines.
