Lower Extremity Angioplasty and Stent Placement

Angioplasty opens up clogged arteries in the leg by inserting a catheter with a small balloon into groin and directing it to the site of the narrowed artery. Once in place, the balloon is inflated to widen the artery. In many cases, angioplasty is combined with stent placement. A stent is a wire mesh tube which is used to keep the artery open.
