  • Tomaszewski-Travis

    Travis Tomaszewski, DO

    Hometown: Stevensville, M
Medical School: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine - Seton Hill

Why did you choose Spectrum Health?
I chose to spend my residency at Spectrum Health for many reasons, but mostly what sold me was my interactions with the people here. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming on my interview day. Spectrum Health is expanding their subspecialty departments rapidly with many new faculty members that are excited to teach. There is also the benefit of being located in Grand Rapids, one of the fastest growing cities in the Midwest.

What do you like most about your program?
After being at Spectrum Health for one year I couldn't be happier with my decision to come here. It is better than I could have imagined. Learning and resident wellness are the highest priority here. Dr. Bragg makes sure to check in with residents often and make sure things are going well, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were never put on the front lines until we were more than prepared to deal with COVID patients. We are challenged, but we are not over-worked and are still able to have personal lives outside of the hospital. All of the faculty are willing to spend extra time to teach, no matter how busy their days are.

Clinical Interests: I'm interested in becoming a hospitalist. I enjoy the mix of diseases that you can treat as a hospitalist and it keeps you up to date on many of the subspecialties.

Living in West Michigan: West Michigan is one of the friendliest areas. I grew up in Southwest Michigan and completed my medical school training in Pennsylvania, so when I was able to move to Grand Rapids it felt like coming back home. There are so many beautiful areas to explore from nature trails, the Manistee National Forest, and being so close to Lake Michigan. There are so many things to do downtown, you can easily find something going on every weekend. I am planning on staying in Grand Rapids long term.

Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with my fiancée trying out new restaurants and breweries, there always seems to be new ones popping up. There's a reason Grand Rapids is called Beer City USA. We also enjoy going up north to go skiing (easily drive-able for a day trip). During the summertime there are countless opportunities to explore the outdoors as well. I am also a proud University of Michigan alumni so I try to go to at least a few Michigan football games every year.
