  • lake-alexander

    Alexander Joseph Lake, DO

    Hometown: Grand Rapids, MI
Medical School: Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why did you choose Spectrum Health?
I fell in love with the pediatric heme/onc group during an away rotation at Spectrum Health Helen Devos Children's Hospital. I know their team will provide the quality education and resources I need to succeed after I graduate from my fellowship.

What do you like most about your program?
I am looking forward to joining the pediatric heme/onc family and working together as a team.

Clinical Interests: At this time, I am not sure if I want to subspecialize within the pediatric heme/onc field. I do have a special interest in bone marrow failure syndromes and leukemia/lymphoma. As my clinic experience grows, I hope to find clarity among these interests.

Living in West Michigan: I love the variety of restaurants, the nearby lakeshore, and the many parks and trails. Since my family lives in West Michigan as well, I enjoy the luxury of being near them.

HobbiesMy outdoor hobbies include: hiking, running, rollerblading, basketball, and photography (from my travels). My indoor hobbies include: listening to music, reading, playing video games, and playing board games.

Class of 2021

  • DavidHoogstraMD

    David Hoogstra, MD

    Hometown: Grand Rapids, MI
Medical School: Wayne State University School of Medicine

Why did you choose Spectrum Health?
Without a doubt, I chose Spectrum Health for pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship because of the people. From the first time I met them, I have been impressed by the character, teamwork, and commitment to excellence of the entire pediatric hematology/oncology team at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. I knew this was a place I would get great training.

What do you like most about your program?
The outstanding team of people that I get to work with every day.

Clinical Interests: My clinical interests are evolving as I continue to see new and interesting patients during my fellowship. Currently, I am most interested in immune hematology, leukemia and lymphoma, immunotherapy, and renal tumors.

Living in West Michigan: I really enjoy the community in West Michigan. As a mid-sized city, it feels like there are many of the restaurant and entertainment opportunities that you might find in a bigger city without having to deal with expensive housing or excessive traffic. Also, Lake Michigan and Northern Michigan are short drives away and are great places to get away to.

HobbiesMy hobbies are pretty simple; I enjoy running, biking, and spending time with friends and family. I also have really enjoyed trying out many of the local restaurants and breweries here in Grand Rapids.
