Facts and Questions
What parking options are available in East Grand Rapids for the Irish Jig?
Parking is at a premium in East Grand Rapids. Please plan to come early and be patient in finding a spot for your vehicle; carpooling is encouraged. Please refrain from parking in the East Grand Rapids High/Middle/Elementary school lots as the schools have activities that same day and require their parking for students, parents and guests.
- On-street parking outside the race course is prevalent
- Gaslight Village Parking Ramp. New as of February 2019, the ramp is pay-to-park with the following pricing: 1st half hour free, each half hour after that is $1.25; daily max is $15. Please keep in mind that the pay-to-park feature will slow traffic going into and out of the ramp, and, with less than 200 spots available, will fill quickly.
Can I pay by check or with cash when I register for the event?
During late registration on Friday, March 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, March 16 from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the East Grand Rapids High School gym, checks, cash or credit cards will be accepted.
Can I reserve a certain shirt size?
Shirt sizes can be selected during online registration through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 10. Beginning Monday, March 11, participants can register but no longer select their shirt size but will choose from available remaining shirt sizes on a first come first served basis at event check-in/late registration on March 15 and 16 at the East Grand Rapids High School gym. The remaining shirts will be sold after the event for a $10 donation to the Spectrum Health Cancer Center.
What time does the event start?
The Spectrum Health Irish Jig will begin at 8:30 a.m. in 2019, 30 minutes earlier than 2018 in an effort to ease congestion around East Grand Rapids High School activities that will be taking place later that morning.
Is walking the course permitted?
Walking the course is allowed, but participants must complete the route within 75 minutes. Walkers will begin their event after all runners have crossed the starting line, at approximately 8:45 a.m. If you cannot complete the course in 45 minutes, you may be asked to finish the race on the sidewalk so the roads can be reopened to traffic. You will be included in the results if you complete the 5K when the finish line closes at 10 a.m. Unlike the run course, baby strollers are allowed on the walk course.
