Help Babies get a Healthy Start
Join us for the 2018 Spectrum Health Foundation United and Kelsey Hospitals Charity Ball.
The event will take place Saturday, February 17 at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The evening will include a social hour, auctions, dinner, program, and the presentation of the Fred & Lena Meijer Spirit of Caring Award. Be sure to stay later in the evening as the Simone Vitale Band will be back for musical entertainment and dancing.
Proceeds from the charity ball will benefit Spectrum Health United Lifestyles Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP). The MIHP offers the tools necessary for expectant and new mothers to provide a healthy, safe environment that allows their babies to grow and thrive, ultimately reducing infant mortality. MIHP is intended for some of our most vulnerable community members: high-risk, Medicaid-eligible pregnant women and their families. The Spectrum Health United Lifestyles Maternal Infant Health Program serves approximately 200 families each year throughout Montcalm County, northern Kent and northern Ionia counties. Our MIHP team makes home visits and often finds heartbreaking situations.
A single, working mom was practicing unsafe sleeping habits. She and her baby were sleeping on the couch together because the mom couldn’t afford a crib or pack-n-play. Thankfully, because of gifts from people like you, MIHP was able to provide her with a pack-n-play so her baby had a safe place to sleep. Through the MIHP home visit, safe sleeping education was also provided to the mom, teaching that her baby could suffocate when sleeping with adults or other children or could become stuck in couch cushions and be smothered.
