Pregnancy Care

The Warmth, Kindness and Expertise You Expect. We Deliver.

More expectant mothers choose the Spectrum Health Family Birthplace at Butterworth Hospital than any other birthing center in the state of Michigan. You can rely on our personal care and expertise before, during and after your birth experience.

The Family Birthplace brings together a highly trained professional staff, modern and comfortable rooms, the latest technology for your safety and well-being, and a health care team that is ready to take the very best care of you and your newborn.

Comprehensive Care for Mothers and Newborns

For medical excellence, there is no better place in West Michigan to have your baby than the Family Birthplace. Clinically, you can trust that we have the area’s most complete and advanced range of pregnancy, labor and delivery services, including:

Private Birthing Suites

Our private birthing suites—with homelike surroundings full of comforts and conveniences—make labor and delivery more pleasant. Our spacious suites feature plenty of room to support your birthing partner and visitors, and diversions such as flat-screen TVs and on-demand food delivery. After delivery, our postpartum rooms are designed so your baby can remain with you from birth until you leave the hospital.

Customized Birth Plans

Every woman has different preferences and desires for the birth of her baby. You’ve imagined this moment for months, if not years, and we want to help you have the best possible experience. While the health of you and your baby is always our top priority, we will respect your personal birth preferences as much as possible. Your nurse will work with you and your birth plan to understand your wishes regarding labor and delivery. Download our birth preferences document here.

Baby-Friendly Philosophy

At the Family Birthplace, we follow a Baby-Friendly philosophy and are actively working toward a designation that recognizes the high standard of care we provide. Being Baby-Friendly means offering care that encourages breastfeeding and mother/baby bonding. We allow your new baby to stay with you in your room, which allows you to practice skin to skin bonding with baby after birth, should you choose. Our nurses and lactation consults will help you get the best start on breastfeeding, and we’ll support you all along the way, even after you and baby go home.
