Name:

Blake Bonkowski

Hometown:

Owosso, MI

Pharmacy School:

Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI

Interests:

In my free time I like to play guitar, golf, snowboard, wakeboard, and watch sports (football, basketball, baseball…go Tigers).

Why Spectrum Health:

I was impressed with the large variety of rotations that Spectrum Health offers. Staffing was an important factor for me when choosing a residency and at Spectrum you can staff in several different areas including the ED satellite as a resident. Also, Grand Rapids is a great city with a lot of fun things to do. Spectrum offers a well-rounded residency program that allows me to get experience in my interest area, but also experience something new.

Plans for Next Year:

Considering a PGY2, but right now I am undecided.

Name:

Brittany Bowen

Hometown:

Grand Rapids, MI

Pharmacy School:

University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY

Interest:

I love anything and everything outdoors! Given a choice, I’d be on the sand volleyball court, but as long as it’s active, I am doing it any chance I get. I also enjoy baking, spontaneous adventures, and exploring a very different and interesting Grand Rapids than when I last lived here 8 years ago.

Why Spectrum Health:

On paper, Spectrum Health’s residency program overwhelmingly stood out from the rest in that it offers exposure to diverse clinical settings, teaching experiences, leadership development, and a supportive and evolving interdisciplinary environment. More importantly, in person, all of these positive attributes were affirmed by the enthusiastic, welcoming, and exceptional individuals that I was able to meet that would eventually become my mentors. I was absolutely certain that Spectrum Health would provide me with an outstanding learning experience and incredible opportunities to facilitate my growth and begin my pharmacy career.

Plans for Next Year:

I am keeping an open mind, but I am considering pursuing a PGY-2.

Name:

Jennifer Heidmann

Hometown:

Grand Rapids, MI

Pharmacy School:

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI

Interest:

Hiking, backpacking, playing softball, sailing, and gardening.

Why Spectrum Health:

I chose Spectrum for my residency because of my positive experience here as a student. I was able to meet with many pharmacists and managers and all of them were excited about the department and the residency program. Spectrum also offered rotations in many different areas of practice and had a lot of flexibility in scheduling.

Plans for next year:

I am considering a PGY2 in ID or a Global Health PGY2 in Kenya.

Name:

Carissa Jacobs

Hometown:

Kawkawlin, MI

Pharmacy School:

Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI

Interests:

Pediatrics. Everyone is always smiling and happy in the pediatric world, who wouldn’t want to work there?

Why Spectrum Health:

I chose to complete my residency at Spectrum Health because of the opportunities this hospital system could give me. It will allow me to have vast experiences in both the adult and pediatric patient populations.

Plans for next year:

I plan to pursue a PGY2 in pediatrics.

Name:

Alexis Klefeker

Hometown:

Fort Wayne, IN

Pharmacy School:

Ohio Northern University, Ada, OH

Interests:

My interests in pharmacy include infectious disease and transplant. I have had some clinical experience in both of these areas of pharmacy through my academic rotations and am excited to continue learning in these areas and others here at Spectrum. Outside of work I enjoy camping, hiking, participating in triathlons, cooking, and going to concerts. Anything that includes being outside and active is right where I want to be.

Why Spectrum Health:

What impressed me most about Spectrum Health was the wide variety of opportunities to learn and the true enthusiasm and interest the preceptors showed toward the resident class. I am excited to be able to share my residency experience with my four co-residents this year.
