About Our Service
Spectrum Health offers an Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Clinic to see patients as soon as possible after symptoms are noticed. Patients with AF continue to be seen at the Atrial Fibrillation Clinic, benefiting from our advanced care, new technology developments and ongoing patient education.
We are nationally recognized for advancing the field of AF care through locally-lead research studies. One such study lead to Atrial Fibrillation Pathway, a program that helps patients who come to the emergency department with AF get treated in a way that avoids hospitalization.
Other developments include cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation procedure, a novel way of eliminating atrial fibrillation, and left atrial appendage occlusion, a method of closing an area of the heart which collects blood clots in patient with AF. These technologies dramatically reduce the risk of stroke in AF patients, and in most instances, allow the discontinuation of blood thinning drugs.
