Treatments for Tuberous Sclerosis in Children

Your Child's Care Begins Here

It’s natural to feel a little overwhelmed as the parent of a child with tuberous sclerosis. But you're not alone. Our pediatric kidney care team along with other specialists in the TSC clinic are here for you and your child. We're experts in helping children with kidney problems and this specific condition.

We have proven medicines to address typical symptoms of tuberous sclerosis, such as seizures and high blood pressure. If dialysis is needed, we specialize in both types of blood-filtering methods: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

If the cyst needs to be removed, we have skilled surgeons and kid-focused sedation services available. We can help your child and your whole family manage this health journey.

Treatments We Provide

  • Anti-Epileptic Medicine

Medicine may be prescribed to manage seizures, which are a symptom of tuberous sclerosis.

  • Blood Pressure Medicine

Medicine may be prescribed to manage high blood pressure, which can be caused by kidney disease associated with tuberous sclerosis.

  • Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis uses a filtering machine to remove waste and extra fluid from the blood. The procedure is usually done in a dialysis center, three or more times a week.

  • Kidney Cyst Removal

If a kidney cyst becomes infected, causes pain and doesn’t respond well to antibiotics, it can be surgically removed or drained.

  • Peritoneal Dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis uses the body's peritoneal membrane beneath the abdominal wall to filter the blood. This treatment can be done continuously, during the day or at night.
