Location and support are the most frequently cited reasons patients and families choose United Hospital for quality cancer care.
Easy Scheduling
From curbside drop-off to easy scheduling, patients and families appreciate saving time by receiving cancer treatment close to home, with their families and friends nearby.
Our Team and Resources
Our cancer care team includes hematologists/oncologists, certified oncology nurses, registered dietitians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and certified clinical pharmacists. Our on-site lab takes care of scheduled tests and walk-in blood draws. Diagnostic imaging at the hospital (see page 8) offers quick results and is a valuable part of the cancer treatment plan.
Privacy and Support
Patients can receive treatment privately, with loved ones nearby, or in an open treatment area. Patients undergoing treatment within the same room can talk to each other, and share information and encouragement.
Collaboration
Cancer care at United Hospital is part of one of the largest cancer treatment programs in the state. Spectrum Health has more cancer clinical trials than any other hospital in the region. That means Spectrum Health adult cancer patients have access to new treatments and technologies months or even years before they may become widely available.
Our highly qualified cancer specialists collaborate with multispecialty teams at the Spectrum Health Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion. That means patients receive the best care available within the Spectrum Health system. At the Lemmen- Holton Cancer Pavilion, patients may receive radiation therapy, genetic counseling and advanced testing, among other outpatient cancer services.
Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Infusion Therapy: injects intravenous fluids and medications including chemotherapy
Thoracentesis: removes excess fluid between the lungs and the chest wall, helps with diagnosis and staging of lung cancer
Bone Marrow Aspiration: removes a small amount of bone marrow fluid and cells through a needle for diagnosis and to determine if cancer is responding to therapy
