Lower Extremity Arterial Duplex Ultrasound
What is ultrasound?
Ultrasound is an exam that uses sound waves to make pictures of the inside of your body and measure how fast blood is moving through your blood vessels. A lower extremity arterial duplex ultrasound can take pictures of the arteries or bypass grafts or stents in your legs to make sure that they are not blocked or diseased in any way. An ultrasound tech will perform your exam by applying a water-based gel directly to the skin of your leg and pressing an ultrasound camera to your body in multiple areas to obtain the proper images.
