Chief, Surgical Specialties

M. Ashraf Mansour, MD, serves as chief of surgical specialties for Spectrum Health Medical Group, a multispecialty group practice with more than 600 providers. Spectrum Health Medical Group is a part of Spectrum Health, a not-for-profit, integrated system in West Michigan. Dr. Mansour specializes in vascular and endovascular surgery. His special interests include aortic aneurysms, aortic occlusive disease and cartoid disease. He routinely performs open surgery and endovascular procedures for these conditions. Dr. Mansour also serves on the surgical critical care faculty at Spectrum Health.

Areas of Responsibility

Dr. Mansour is chief of surgical specialties for Spectrum Health Medical Group. He serves as vice-chair of the Spectrum Health Medical Group Board. Dr. Mansour is a professor of surgery at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he also serves as program director of the vascular surgery residency and director of the cardiovascular medicine division.

Employment History

Prior to joining Spectrum Health Medical Group, Dr. Mansour served as program director of general surgery and as professor of surgery at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. Previously, he served on the surgery faculty of University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, and on active duty in the United States Army Medical Corps in Ft. Benning, Georgia.

Educational Background

Dr. Mansour completed his undergraduate studies at the College de la Sainte Famille (Jesuits) and at Cairo University in Cairo. He received his medical degree from Cairo University School of Medicine and graduated with honors. Dr. Mansour completed a surgical internship and residency at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. He completed his fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois.


Dr. Mansour is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is president-elect of the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society and a distinguished member of the Society for Vascular Surgery. Dr. Mansour is also a member of the American Venous Forum, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Western Surgical Association. He holds office in several surgical societies and is a board member of the Vascular Disease Foundation.
