Advanced Heart Failure/LVAD Coordinator
Teresa Wainscott, PA-C
Teresa Wainscott worked as an RN in cardiac catheterization prior to becoming a physician assistant. She has been a PA in cardiology for 25 years and loves being part of the advanced heart failure and transplant team. About working with the heart transplant team, she notes, "I felt with my experience with patients in cardiology would be an asset. I love direct patient care, and it is wonderful to work in great detail with patients and families. My favorite aspect is working so closely with patients from initial evaluation to VAD or transplant. I get to see a chance for improvement in symptoms and quality of life for people who have been very ill."
Sarah Hoeksema, PA-C, MPAS
Sarah Hoeksema earned degrees from Hope College and Grand Valley State University before joining West Michigan Heart in 2005 (now Spectrum Health Medical Group Cardiovascular Services). It was during her work in general cardiology that she transitioned to specializing in advanced heart failure at the encouragement of the physicians at West Michigan Heart. As Sarah serves the transplant team in the role of coordinator, she appreciates the opportunity to see the lives of her patients improve. "It's so rewarding to see the quality of life return along with the second chance to live."
